This is of my paternal great-grandmother, Lucinda (Hampton) Burke.   Born in 1875, she must have been a very special person.  Her mother died very young, and she was raised by a maiden aunt (Sarah Folsom).  Lucinda raised nine of her ten children. You can see both courage and happiness in this photo. Lucinda lived 91 years.

This next photo is of her husband (and my great-grandfather), Joe Marcus Burke. Joe came from Mississippi, but he was not Choctaw.  He looks a bit familiar... I will have to do some comparing, but I think that my son David resembles him quite a lot.

This is a really great photo of Minnie Myrtle Burke (my paternal grandmother) and Reg (Reginald) Rogers (my paternal grandfather), on the day they were married.  They eloped and ran away to get married in 1912. Minnie's father drove all over the county for a month, with a shotgun across his lap, looking for Reg. My grandmother told my cousin Bobbe the story of the elopement so she could write it down.  If you'd like to read it, just click here!

Next is Minnie with her two children; my father Marcus, and my aunt Lucille.  This was taken when Marcus was about 12 or so, so probably in 1925. I also  noticed a very neat old car behind them.

Okay, still with me?  Just turn the page
and you will meet more of Lucinda's children!
